Detailed Standard Introduction Of Low-Smoke Halogen-Free Cables

Low-smoke halogen-free cables, such as xlpe cable、xlpe insulated power cables、as the name implies, are cables that produce less smoke after being burned in a fire and do not contain halogens. Low-smoke and halogen-free means that the cable will not produce a lot of poisonous gas and smoke when the flame burns, thus ensuring that people can breathe fresh air in the fire and greatly improving the survival rate of people in the fire.The most commonly used ones are armoured cable 4 core、xlpe electrical cable、electrical solar cable etc.

Standards

The standards for low-smoke halogen-free cables need to meet the following three requirements:

Flame Retardant Requirements: Low smoke halogen free cables must be flame retardant. There are two levels of flame retardancy, which are required to comply with IEC 60332.1 (vertical combustion test for single cables) and IEC 60332.3C (vertical combustion propagation test for bundled cables). IEC 60332.1 flame retardant requirements using ordinary cable flame retardant requirements, while IEC60332.3C is more demanding, belonging to the trunk level flame retardant requirements.

 

Smoke Density Requirements: Low smoke halogen free cables flexible power cable、flexible braided cable are tested for smoke density. It is in a closed space with a fire burning cable, to be extinguished after the flame to test the final indoor smoke density, the requirement in the case of smoke, light transmission ability to reach 60%, so as to ensure that people can see the road in the smoke.

 

Toxicity requirements: There are several toxicity test methods, such as the mouse test and so on. In the low-smoke halogen-free cable is used in the halogenated acid gas release test (for low-halogen test) and gas acidity test (for halogen-free test). The principle of the test is to determine the halogen content by analysing the gases produced by low-smoke halogen-free materials at high temperatures (800°C and 935°C respectively).
