What are DC cords?

DC power cords are electrical cables used to connect two DC devices or a DC devices and a DC power sources. DC power cords are also known as DC power cables. There are many types of DC power cables and includes DC power supply cords, DC power extension cords, and DC power adapter cords.

 

 

DC power supply cords


The structure of DC power supply cords is similar to that of AC cable, but its insulation can withstand dc operating voltage for a long time. DC power supply cords has the advantages of high working electric field intensity, thin insulation thickness, small cable diameter, light weight, large current-carrying elbow, low loss, no alternating magnetic field and so on.  It is suitable for long distance DC power transmission system, especially the large length transmission line across the strait.

In DC power supply cords ,there is no inductive voltage on the metal sheath and armor.  There is no problem of sheath loss. The sheath structure of DC power supply cords mainly considers mechanical protection and corrosion prevention, especially in DC submarine cable, armored and other protective structures should be adopted to avoid damage from external mechanical forces.  Up to now, the highest voltage of DC power supply cords put into operation is ±800KV. 

 

DC power extension cords

DC power adapter cords


Before we talk about adapter cords, we need figure out the adapter. Actually there are some clear differences between adapter and charger. Charger usually refers to a converts alternating current to a low voltage dc equipment, its interior includes current limiting, such as pressure limiting meet charging control circuit, the characteristic of the power adapter is a transformer, rectifier and the voltage stability of power converter, the output is dc, in the case of meet the power can be understood as a low voltage stabilized voltage supply. Now let's talk about what is a power adapter?  What is a charger?  What is the relationship between the two and the difference between them? 

The Charger

Charger usually refers to a device that converts alternating current into low-voltage direct current. The charger is a special DC power supply for rechargeable batteries, which includes current limiting, voltage limiting and other control circuits to meet charging characteristics. 

Chargers are widely used in various fields, especially in the field of life is widely used in electric cars, flashlights and other common electrical appliances.  It generally charges the battery directly, without any intermediary devices or devices.  

The process of charger is: constant current - constant voltage - trickle flow, three-stage intelligent charging.  The three-stage charging theory can greatly improve the charging efficiency, shorten the charging time, and effectively prolong the battery life.  Three-stage charging adopts constant current charging, then constant voltage charging, and finally floating charge for maintenance charging. It is generally divided into three stages: quick charging, replenishment charging and trickle charging.  

Quick charging stage: the battery is charged with a high current to quickly restore the battery power. The charging rate can reach over 1C. At this time, the charging voltage is low, but the charging current will be limited within a certain value range.  

Supplementary charging stage: Relative to fast charging stage, supplementary charging stage can also be called slow charging stage.  When the quick charging stage ends, the battery is not fully sufficient, and the supplementary charging process needs to be added. The supplementary charging rate generally does not exceed 0.3c, because the battery voltage increases after the quick charging stage, so the charging voltage in the supplementary charging stage should also increase, and be constant within a certain range.  

Trickle charging stage: in the late supplementary charging stage, when the temperature rise exceeds the limit value or the charging current decreases to a certain value, the charging starts with a smaller current until certain conditions are met and the charging ends.

The common power supply adapter in the market is a power converter after transformer, rectification and voltage regulation. The output is DC, which can be understood as a low-voltage regulated power supply when the power is satisfied.  

 

 

The Adapter

The power adapter is widely used in routers, telephone motherboards, game machines, language repeater, walkman, notebooks, mobile phones and other devices.  Most power adapters can automatically detect 100 to 240V ac (50/60 hz).  

The power adapter is a small portable electronic equipment and electronic electrical power supply conversion equipment, it puts the power external, with a line and the host connection, so that you can reduce the volume and weight of the host, only a few equipment and electrical power built-in in the host.  Its internal power transformer and rectifier circuit, according to its output type can be divided into AC output type and DC output type;  According to the connection mode, it can be divided into wall type and desktop type.  Each power adapter has a nameplate indicating the power, input/output voltage, and current, especially the input voltage range.
