Ethernet cat 5e refers to the CATEGORY 5 Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP-5) and Category 5 Shielded Twisted Pair. Unshielded twisted pair cable is composed of multiple pairs of twisted pair cables and a plastic sheath. Compared with unshielded twisted pair cable, shielded twisted pair cable only has one more shielding layer, and there is no other difference.
To reduce signal interference, each pair in a twisted twisted-pair cable is made of two insulated copper wires twisted against each other, and different pairs of wires in the same cable have different degrees of twist (that is, the number of twists). At the same time, the wire pair in the standard twisted pair cable is twisted counterclockwise. However, there are many problems in the cable produced by some informal manufacturers: (1) In order to simplify the manufacturing process, all wire pairs in the cable have the same twisting density; (2) The twisting density of the two insulated wires in the wire pair does not meet the technical requirements; ③ The twisting direction of the wire pair does not meet the requirements. If the preceding problems exist, the near end crosstalk (refers to the degree of signal interference between two wire pairs in UTP) of the twisted pair may occur, and the transmission distance cannot meet the requirements. Twisted twisted-pair cable has strict standards in production. In the actual purchase, some professional equipment can be used to measure it when conditions are available, but general users can only observe it with the naked eye. In addition to twisting the two insulated copper wires that form the twisted pair as required, the twisted pairs in the standard twisted pair cable should also be twisted counterclockwise. Otherwise, mismatches of cable resistances may occur, limiting transmission distance. This point is rarely noticed by the average user.
What is the difference between cat5e and cat6?
Ethernet cat 5e can support frequencies up to 100MHz and transmission speeds up to 1000Mbps. It is used in ATM, token ring networks, 1000Base-T, 100Base-T, and 10Base-T networks and it refers to ordinary household network cables.
Cat-6 means super class 6 twisted pair cable. The parameters of super class 6 twisted pair cable are greatly improved and the transmission frequency is expanded to 250MHz or higher.
The sixth type of twisted pair cable is different from the fifth type or super fifth type of twisted pair cable in shape and structure. It not only increases the insulated cross skeleton, but also puts the four pairs of twisted pair cables in the four grooves of the cross skeleton, and the diameter of the cable is thicker. "Class six" is used to transfer data between switches, routers and computer jacks.
Ethernet CAT 5e means super five class cable, CAT6 is six class cable, the difference between the two mainly lies in the spacing of the pair is not the same, Ethernet CAT 5e spacing is relatively large, CAT6 twist distance is relatively tight, transmission rate is much higher than Ethernet CAT 5e, of course, the price is also a lot more expensive.
