THHN Wire Used Control Circuit Wiring

Published by Author: Joey Wan September 23,2023

One of the primary materials used in control circuit wiring is THHN wire. THHN stands for Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon-coated, which is a type of electrical wire designed for general-purpose electrical applications.

THHN wire is made of soft and flexible copper conductors that are coated with a layer of nylon material that improves insulation. THHN wire has a temperature range of -40°C to 90°C, making it suitable for use in both hot and cold environments.

THHN wire comes in various gauges and sizes, ranging from 12 gauge wire THHN to 650mcm THHN wire, to suit different applications. THHN wire is available in solid and stranded designs, depending on the intended use.

When selecting the right THHN wire for a specific application, it is essential to consider the gauge and wire size, temperature range, voltage rating, and insulation type. For instance, THHN wire 4 AWG is a commonly used size for control circuit wiring applications, while 400mcm wire THHN is ideal for high-current applications. THHN wire stranded is best suited for robust installations requiring greater flexibility, while THHN solid wire is more suited for applications requiring superior electrical conductivity.

Other THHN wire sizes commonly used in control circuit wiring applications include 350mcm THHN wire, 500mcm THHN wire, and 650mcm THHN wire. Each size has its specific use depending on the current and voltage requirements of the electrical system.
