What Is The Difference Between Steel Wire Armored Cable And Armored Cable?

Published by Author: Joey Wan September 18,2023

Shenzhen cable manufacturer JZD will introduce to you that armored cable is the name of any cable made of aluminum wire or steel wire armor. The armor is placed underneath the cable jacket to protect the drive and isolate the layers.

Why use armored cable?

When used outdoors or in direct burial projects, the cables must be mechanically protected. This protection is provided by 95mm 4 core armored cable aluminum or AWA and steel wire armored or SWA and cables with higher tensile loads.

There are two types of armored cables: aluminum wire armored and steel wire armored.

What is Steel Wire Armor (SWA)?

Steel wire armored cable is a mechanically protected, wear-resistant power cable designed specifically for power supply, such as 185mm 4 core steel wire armored cable, cable armored 4 core 300sq xlpe, steel wire armored xlpe cable yjv32. SWA is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, in cable troughs or directly buried underground. Multi-core steel wire armored cable armored cable 3 core, armored cable 4 core, armored cable 4 core 16mm2 can also be used for auxiliary control.

SWA Cable–PVC

SWA is a wear-resistant cable with Class 2 stranded copper conductors, XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride) lining, aluminum or steel wire armor and black PVC jacket.
Sometimes, SWA cable (armoured cable 4 core 25mm, copper armored cable 4 core ip65) is called brochure armored cable, power supply or power cable. SWA cables are rated for 600/1000V.

SWA Cable–LS0H

The SWA cable version of Low Smoke Zero Halogen or LS0H is constructed in the same way as PVCSWA cable - with copper, cross-linked polyethylene and aluminum or steel wire armouring. The few differences are that LS0HSWA cable has an LS0H cushion and LS0H jacket.

LS0HSWA cables are used in public areas as the sheath emits only very low smoke levels and non-toxic halogen gas levels when exposed to fire
