Chile's Ministry of National Property announced that it will tender 2,786 hectares of land in santa Elena commune, 27.5 kilometers northwest of the town of Quillagua, about 28 kilometers east of the mouth of the Loya River in the Antofagasta region of northern Chile.

According to the tender documents, the allocated land is relatively close to the transmission line, and plans are made to build a large renewable energy power plant. Interested developers will have time to submit their proposals by May 25.

The Ministry of State Property launched a similar tender in 2019 to distribute 8,891 hectares of land. The first such tender was issued in 2017, six months after new rules for the use of state-owned land for renewable energy projects were issued. These new regulations are intended to make it easier for public lands to be used to build projects in the renewable energy sector.

According to the provision, the maximum period of use granted will be extended from 30 years to 35 years.
