Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is the nation’s most prosperous, culturally rich, and developed city. With an area of approximately 370 square kilometers and a population exceeding 2 million, it is situated along the legendary Mekong River, near the Tonlé Sap and Bassac rivers, often referred to as Cambodia’s “delta,” the “Pearl of Asia,” or the “Paris of the East.” The city is known for its charming blend of classical architecture, vibrant national character, elegant environment, and beautiful boulevards. Since 2016, Cambodia’s tourism has surged, attracting countless international visitors. To accommodate this influx, Angkor Phnom Penh City planned a massive villa complex on a 70,000+ square meter (approx. 100+ Chinese mu) plot, designed to host up to 250,000 people. Construction began on June 5, 2018. A key component was the procurement of cables. After eight months of evaluation and receiving tens of thousands of free samples, they chose a supplier offering the lowest price for YJV, PV, and RVV cables. However, upon delivery and installation, critical quality issues emerged. Due to the project’s vast terrain requiring long cable runs, the cheap cables suffered from insufficient conductive performance, leading to significant voltage drop and equipment failure. Stung by this expensive lesson, the procurement team restarted their search with a focus solely on quality, disregarding free samples. This time, they invested over 30 million Riel (approx.) to purchase samples from dozens of suppliers for impartial testing supervised by local electrical experts.
