Project Details & Narrative

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is the nation’s most prosperous, culturally rich, and developed city. With an area of approximately 370 square kilometers and a population exceeding 2 million, it is situated along the legendary Mekong River, near the Tonlé Sap and Bassac rivers, often referred to as Cambodia’s “delta,” the “Pearl of Asia,” or the “Paris of the East.” The city is known for its charming blend of classical architecture, vibrant national character, elegant environment, and beautiful boulevards. Much of its modern skyline, including numerous high-rises and villa projects, is developed by Angkor Phnom Penh City, a highly capable real estate company based in Phnom Penh.
Since 2016, Cambodia’s tourism has surged, attracting countless international visitors. To accommodate this influx, Angkor Phnom Penh City planned a massive villa complex on a 70,000+ square meter (approx. 100+ Chinese mu) plot, designed to host up to 250,000 people. Construction began on June 5, 2018. A key component was the procurement of cables. The project’s design included multiple solar power stations to supply electricity during construction and for the completed villa, along with solar water heaters. This necessitated a large quantity of photovoltaic (PV) cables, power cables (YJV), and flexible RVV cables for connecting various construction equipment.
JZD Cable - Case Study: Borey Angkor Phnom Penh Large Villa Project, Cambodia

The Initial Failure & Lesson Learned

The massive scale of the project meant the cable budget was substantial. To cut costs, the client’s procurement team sourced suppliers globally, including platforms like Alibaba International. After eight months of evaluation and receiving tens of thousands of free samples, they chose a supplier offering the lowest price for YJV, PV, and RVV cables. However, upon delivery and installation, critical quality issues emerged. Due to the project’s vast terrain requiring long cable runs, the cheap cables suffered from insufficient conductive performance, leading to significant voltage drop and equipment failure. Local electrical experts confirmed the cables were substandard. The procurement team faced penalties, and attempting to return the used cables resulted in only a 60% refund, causing financial loss and severe project delays.

The Rigorous Re-Selection & Choosing JZD Cable

Stung by this expensive lesson, the procurement team restarted their search with a focus solely on quality, disregarding free samples. This time, they invested over 30 million Riel (approx.) to purchase samples from dozens of suppliers for impartial testing supervised by local electrical experts. The results clearly showed that cables from China, particularly YJV and PV cables, offered superior quality. RVV cable quality was also excellent. However, delivery time became a critical factor due to previous delays. Among the high-quality Chinese suppliers, Shenzhen JZD Cable Co., Ltd. (JZD Cable) stood out by offering the most satisfactory combination of proven quality (backed by authoritative certifications), competitive pricing within the quality bracket, and a reliable, expedited delivery schedule. Consequently, JZD Cable was selected as the sole supplier for this crucial project.

Project Execution & Success

Following approval by the President of Angkor Phnom Penh City and contract signing, JZD Cable supplied the comprehensive cable list detailed above, totaling over 962,000 meters. Upon the first batch’s arrival, Cambodian construction workers promptly resumed work. The quality of JZD Cable’s products—YJV, PV, and RVV cables—exceeded expectations, with excellent packaging and performance. Highly satisfied, the President of Angkor Phnom Penh City expressed strong approval for JZD Cable’s quality and subsequently entered into a long-term cooperation contract with the company.
